10/11/01:
Probably should have updated this a couple of more
times recently... like after the first trip to LA...
or before/after the second... or any of the other
many gigs we had been playing... c'est la... Biggest
news so far: Dewato is on a hiatus of sorts. Yep,
the rumours are true... Dewato has ceased to function
as a band, at least for the time being. Not really
sure what to follow that up with other than: Thanks
to everyone that has helped support the band, from
those who work closely with us to those who have simply
said a good word here and there.... we appreciate
you all and will hopefully see you in the future.
Chow....
05/14/01:
Dewato will be playing the Viper Room in Los Angeles,
CA on June 13th... check the gigs
page for this and more upcoming gigs on the westerly
swing.....
04/23/01:
Working on a swing out to the West Coast in mid-June...
including a couple dates in Los Angeles, San Diego,
and everything on the way there and back... stay tuned
for details. Great show this weekend featuring Kitty
Gordon, Dewato and Sister 7 on Friday at LaZona Rosa
in Austin. This is the first of Sister 7's two local
farewell shows and promises to be a great evening....
get your tickets early as the venue only hold about
1000 people and is certain to sell out! The second
night features 54 Seconds and Sister 7.
03/23/01:
SXSW is gone and a great time was had by all! Dewato's
show(s) kicked booty and some great press was garnered
off the whole ordeal. Check out some of the press
here: press stuff. Dewato
is also headed for the latest Insite/Bombtrax compilation
CD to come out... look for it in May. The song to
be featured is Rain. If you're in Dallas tomorrow
(Sat.) come on out to Club
Dada and say hi to the kids.
03/01/01:
SXSW is almost here and Dewato has a bevy of gigs
lined up for the month... check out the Gigs page
for more details.
02/15/01:
Apologies to anyone who tried to find this page last
week and was turned away... our server upgrade took
us out for about 72 hours! But we're back and at it...
Seems there are a whole slew of shows coming up in
the next month or so for the kids around Austin, not
the least of which is the SXSW
showcase.. finally confirmed for 3/16 at Speakeasy...
10pm... preceded by Kitty
Gordon at 9pm and followed by Will
Sexton at 11pm... should be a fabulous night for
all. If you'd rather see someone else, well you wouldn't
be reading this I suppose, but let's pretend that
were the case... we recommend one Jeff
Klein, who will be playing the very same night,
at the very same time as Dewato -except he's at the
Pecan Street Alehouse... Also that night, only earlier:
Jengurl!!!
She will be playing at Austin-Bergstrom Airport (yes,
they really have stage at the airport) and will have
Ken sitting in on bass, unless he gets fired before
then.... but hey, what are the odds? While you're
at it, pick up Jengurl's new CD which should be out
by the end of February.... you can buy it through
Penguinville,
of course.... it is quite fabulous... better than
anything else you can get for $10, that's for darn
sure!
01/06/01:
Our buddy Will
Sexton's album has been released, and it's quite
a little gem. You really owe it to yourself to drop
the $20 and buy it... heck, you owe it to the world...
it'll be good for your karma.... In case you missed
it, or you just weren't paying attention, the Austin
American Statesman's Amp Awards for 2000 are out and
the important results for us are: Best New Band: #3
- Dewato; Best Album of the Year: #21 - Dewato
(Demonstration)... other recent accolades: Shaman
(the track can be found on Demonstration)
was #29 in the Top 50 of 2000 on Andy Langer's The
Next Big Thing radio show... and it appears Dewato
will be making a repeat appearance at SXSW,
the invite was received on Thursday... woohooo.....
12/06/00:
Guess this page should really be updated more, eh?
C'est la... Let's see... The team is back in fighting
shape, Ken has 2 semi-functioning hands again, so
no more shows (hopefully) with the 1 fingered bass
stylings the below mentioned cow-cast provided....
Tuesday night at Momo's has started to become the
place to be, as we had all hoped it would. Come on
down and join Dewato, Will Sexton, Jeff Klein, Kitty
Gordon and weekly special guests for an evening of
music and just plain ol' good times! With Christmas
and the like around the corner, we've got plenty on
tap.... come on out and say "hey" to the
kiddos, wherever that may be (see gigs
page for up-to-the-minute details). Beyond that...
things are pretty mellow in Dewato-land.
10/25/00:
Hmmmm... well, Ken broke his hand on the 19th, but
was able to still play Club
Dada. Word has it he received a shiny new cast
this week that resembles a cow... great if you're
a Longhorn fan, not so great for a purple-hearted
Husky fan (that's University of Washington to you
Southerners). It appears shows will go on for the
most part... stay tuned for updates....
9/8/00:
It's done!!! The album is out and available now! Yeehaw....
We had a splendid CD release party at Antone's, shared
the stage with Will Sexton, Jeff Klein, and the lovely
Kitty Gordon. Bundles of people were on hand for the
spectacle and a great time was had by all (that we
talked to at least).
The
album is titled Demonstration and had an official
release date of August 29th... It may take a little
while for the distributors to get things stocked in
your local store, but you can always place your order
through us
directly or through India
Records.... There is also current work being done
on an India Records sampler CD featuring 2 tracks
from each of the above artists... should be cool...
keep your ears/eyes peeled for that one!
Currently
the album is stocked at Waterloo Records (Austin),
Jupiter Records (Austin), Tower Records (Austin),
CD World (Dallas), Amazon.com (online), India
Records (online) and Penguinville
Records (online)... still working on wider distribution.
Look
for a single about late-September, and please, please,
please don't forget to request the tunes from your
favorite station. We can't get this album airplay
without your help! If you know a station that doesn't
have a copy and should by late-September, let us know!
If you want us to play somewhere, let us know! We're
putting plans together for a Fall/Winter '00 tour
and would love your thoughts and recommendations on
places to play.........
